Who Are We?
Well, as of right now, "we" is just me :) My name is Michael Jason Molohon, and I am a licensed school counselor in Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana, and a provisionally licensed professional counselor in Missouri. I have over a decade of experience helping adolescent children (now young adults) and their families deal with life's unexpected challenges. Throughout my career as a school counselor, I have assisted with everything from Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Social, Emotional, & Behavioral Issues, to Career Counseling, Identity Development, Family Conflict, Internet and Gaming Addiction, Grief, Trauma, Self-Harm, Suicidal Ideation, Teen and Domestic Violence.

As of January 2024, I became practicing provisionally as a licensed professional counselor. I found that I wanted to help beyond the scope of just a school counselor, and to further develop my ability to counsel in both a therapeutic and general life coaching role. In this capacity, I have begun practicing both independently as a therapist, and as a life coach. I am now able to serve children, adolescents, students, parents, and everyone directly, instead of through the lens or agenda of a public school.
In my personal time, I love discovering everything St. Louis has to offer. While I am new to living here in St. Peters, I've been out here nearly every year of my life around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, as this is the city in which my family gathered for the holidays :) You will also frequently find me singing on a worship team somewhere, going to music concerts, comedy shows, trivia nights, and anything and everything involving supporting my kiddos extracurricular activities. For a decade in which I was a school counselor, I also volunteered as the Pep Band director, which helped pave the way to becoming a life coaching, and NOTHING gives me greater joy than cheering them on in anything and everything they are trying to achieve. I am also now, and will forever be, an outspoken advocate against school corruption and a LOUD voice for student rights and student-centered education.

In December of 2023, I was awarded status as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and by January, 2024, I was recognized by the State of Missouri Committee for Professional Counselors as a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC). I was accepted for supervision by Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified School Counselor, Dave Guckes. I have been blessed to learn from and work with someone with over 30 years experience as both a therapist and school counselor to help shepherd me into my new role as an independently practicing therapist.
2010-2012
M.A. Counseling
Indiana Wesleyan University

During my time at Indiana Wesleyan University, in addition to my studies, I worked alongside the graduate counseling clinic to have a greater understanding of the counseling professional as a whole. Through this work experience, I came to understand the diversity of factors afflicting mental health and overall well-being, while taking graduate work in alternative forms of non-verbal therapy (i.e. Play Therapy, Music Therapy, Geek Therapy, etc.)
2001-2005
B.A. Psychology
Indiana University - Bloomington

During my time at Indiana University in Bloomington, I was exposed to a plethora of different cultures, ethnicities, races, and backgrounds. Through this experience, in addition to majoring in Psychology, I graduated with an outside school specialization in African American and African Diaspora Studies. It was here that I learned just how unique we all are, the sheer amount of different cultures and cultural influences, and the countless experiences that make us all so vastly unique.

Why do I do this?
If you're asking yourself what my motivation, my drive, the "reason I get up in the morning" is, there are three main reasons behind why I do, what I do, in the capacity in which I do it. The first is my family. I am the oldest brother of three boys, and the first of the next generation of my family line. I have watched with vested personal interest, my two brothers and my nine cousins face all kinds of different challenges during their development and their time in school. The sheer number and variety drove me to want to help people from as early as I can remember, and I found out their stories were common for many students across our country.

The second reason I do this is because of my own personal trauma during my time as a school counselor, witnessing countless times where schools were choosing what was best for the "district" over what was best for the "student". I fought as loudly and vehemently as I could for the children without a voice in public education, only to face gaslighting, manipulation, cover-ups, false accusations, and generally being made to feel worthless. As was the story with my family growing up, I noticed that my story was common to many teachers, counselors, aides, staff, and even adult volunteers, and were leading many to quit the profession altogether. Only when I was becoming physically ill while continuing to work for public education that I decided my time working for schools who cared more about themselves than the children they claim to serve, had come to an end. Since then, I have started advocating for the mistreatment of employees in schools, in addition to the mistreatment of students, through my new role as a licensed professional counselor.

Finally, if you have read to this point, thank you for listening to my story :) But there is no story without Him. Jesus the Christ of Nazareth is my personal Lord and Savior, who died for me, and then was raised back to life, so that I could have eternal life, in Heaven with God, The Father Almighty. It is this man who is at the core of everything I do, but not just because of what He has done for me, but what He modeled for us to do for everyone. He stood up to a corrupt institution prioritizing wealth, political power, and self-edification to fight for inclusion, equity, and the personal worth of every single person. During this time, He was asked whom is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven was, to which He replied by indicating that a young boy, most likely of school age, was the greatest. Personally, I will ALWAYS feel that the greatest work I can do for His Kingdom is to help those who are the greatest in it (children), and those who help the greatest in it, whether they be teachers, parents, counselors, coaches, mentors, siblings, anyone. Our world is constantly attempting to shape, mold, form, deform, reform, and influence children into something that serves the world, instead of what they choose to become. I am here to do everything I can to protect a child’s natural development in mind, heart, body, and soul, and to fight for those, like me, who fight for them.
